One of the five Avenues of Service of Rotary is Youth. Here in Los Alamos, we are very proud of all that we do to serve our local youth, as well as welcoming youth from abroad through our youth exchange program. Examples of youth projects include:
- Sending local high school students to study abroad for one year through the Rotary Youth Exchange program
- Hosting high school students from abroad to spend one year studying at our local high school and learning about life in America
- Recognizing 10 Distinguished Students of Service each year among our local high school population
- Supporting high school students to attend a week-long RLYA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) camp in the Manzano mountains
- Hosting and maintaining a memorial garden at Los Alamos High School to remember students who have passed during their time at the school
- Facilitating a 4-Way Essay Test contest each year at Los Alamos Middle School
- Providing funds for 3rd and 4th grade students to take swim lessons as part of their PE curriculum
- Supporting “safe schools” initiatives at Los Alamos Public Schools, so that staff and students have a safe learning environment
