Rotary Invites Community to Participate in Youth Exchange, Purple Pinky and Meals of Hope

Are you 15–17 years old and interested in spending a school year abroad? Or would your family like to host an international student?

Rotary Youth Exchange gives students the opportunity to live with host families, attend school, learn another language, and build lifelong friendships in another country.

The Rotary Club of Los Alamos operates the community’s only high school international youth exchange program. Supported by Rotary’s worldwide volunteer network, the program offers an immersive international experience at a fraction of the cost of many commercial exchange programs.

Students interested in the 2027–2028 school year, as well as prospective host families, are encouraged to apply now. Learn more at rotarylosalamos.org/rye or info@rotarylosalamos.org.

Join us for lunch at noon this Tuesday, October 20 at United Church to recognize Distinguished Student Cara Gattiker and hear from our current exchange student Filippa Andersson as she introduces us to her home country of Denmark. LAHS student Trey Wernicke will also join us remotely to give us an update on his experience in Switzerland.

Purple Pinky October 23

On Friday, October 23, Rotary will visit Los Alamos elementary schools during lunch periods for its annual Purple Pinky campaign to eradicate polio. Students will have an opportunity to have their pinky finger painted purple, symbolizing the purple ink used to mark children who have received polio vaccinations in immunization campaigns around the world.

Parents are encouraged to tell their children about Purple Pinky before October 23 and send $1 to contribute to Rotary’s PolioPlus fund. No donation is required to participate.

Meals of Hope November 28

Join us on November 28 for Meals of Hope at Crossroads Bible Church to pack meals for northern New Mexico families in need. Last year, we packed 25,000 meals in under a day thanks to your incredible volunteer support. We need your help again this year, as we plan to pack 40,000 meals. To volunteer or learn more, visit https://rotarylosalamos.org/meals-of-hope.

If you can’t be there, you can still help by donating at rotarylosalamos.org/donate.

The Rotary Club of Los Alamos is part of Rotary International, a worldwide network of neighbors, friends, and community leaders united by the motto Service Above Self.
