26.10 Nowers on Affordable Housing

Greetings Rotarians and Friends,

Please join us for our weekly lunch meeting today as we welcome Hannah Nowers, who will speak with us about affordable housing. Housing continues to be one of the most important issues facing Los Alamos and communities across New Mexico, and we look forward to hearing Hannah’s perspective and having a good discussion.

Oktoberfest Success!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped with our Oktoberfest fundraiser at Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op this weekend. It was a fun afternoon of fellowship, bratwurst, beer, and an opportunity to introduce some new people to Rotary.

Between food sales and donations, we raised approximately $1,000 for this year’s Rotary service projects. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, cooked, served, and stopped by to support the club!

Purple Pinky — Friday, October 23

Purple Pinky is coming up later this month as we continue Rotary’s commitment to the worldwide eradication of polio.

We will be visiting Los Alamos elementary schools during their lunch periods on Friday, October 23, with volunteers generally needed between approximately 10:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Students can have their pinky painted purple while learning about polio eradication and Rotary’s role in the effort.

Please consider volunteering. We’ll have more information and school assignments as we get closer.

Meals of Hope — Coming in November

Meals of Hope is coming up in November, when Rotarians and community volunteers will once again come together to package meals for families in need.

Fundraising is already underway through Los Alamos Gives, and we have received at least $130 in donations so far. We’ll have more information soon about the event and volunteer opportunities.

Club Dues

The Club has now paid our dues to both Rotary District 5520 and Rotary International for the current period.

If you still have outstanding Club dues, please get your payment to Vince Chiravalle today. Keeping dues current allows us to meet our obligations while keeping the Club focused on service, fellowship, and the projects ahead.

We have a busy fall ahead, with Purple Pinky, Meals of Hope, and more opportunities to put Service Above Self into action. Thank you to everyone who continues to give your time and energy to Rotary.

See you at lunch!

James Wernicke
President, Rotary Club of Los Alamos
